Raymond Martin is Dwane W. Crichton Professor of Philosophy and chair of the Department of Philosophy at Union College in Schenectady, New York. Formerly, he taught at the University of Maryland, College Park. His publications on the self and personal identity include Self-Concern: An Experiential Approach to What Matters in Survival (1998), and "What Really Matters" (Synthese, 2008). He is also co-author (with John Barresi) of Naturalization of the Soul: Self and Personal Identity in the Eighteenth Century (2000) and The Rise and Fall of Soul and Self: An Intellectual History of Personal Identity (2006).
